CTS members are invited to attend this session that will provide an overview of the Canadian Respiratory Guidelines Committee and an update on revised recommendations or implementation initiatives in areas such as: asthma (adult, pediatric, acute and occupational), COPD, cough, sleep disorders (adult), sleep apnea (pediatric), community acquired pneumonia, pulmonary vascular diseases, home mechanical ventilation (adult), and others. 4. New Research Funding Opportunity: The Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health in partnership with the Institute of Aging are inviting applications for funding under a Prevention of Cardiovascular and Respiratory Diseases operating grant program. They are soliciting research proposals to address the behavioural, psychological, social and environmental factors important in the effective prevention of chronic diseases, and innovative intervention strategies that can affect outcome. 5. Post-doctoral Position in Childhood Asthma
Professor Francine Ducharme is offering a post-doctoral position to one or two meritorious candidates within the Post-doctoral Scholarship Competition launched by the Foundation of the CHU Sainte-Justine, which is affiliated with the University of Montreal. The selected applicant will receive an annual stipend valued at $50,000 for 3 years with research funds of $15,000 available in the first year. Click here for details.
6. Information on the Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health’s 2009 Young Investigators Forum is now available online! Registration will open on February 2nd and the deadline for abstract submissions will be February 27. Click here to learn more and join the forum's Facebook group!
7. The Center for Asthma in the Workplace has launched its annual scholarship competition. Consult its Web site for details and don't miss the application deadline of March 6 2009.
8. The Center for Asthma in the Workplace also offers an online course on asthma in the workplace that has been accredited by l'université de Montréal. The program, currently offered in French only, will soon be available in English

The CTS E-bulletin will soon include a new section that provides references to articles on respiratory matters published by CTS members. If you wish to have an article listed in the next edition of the CTS E-bulletin, send an email including your name, the title of your article, and a hyperlink to the publication in which it is published to sdesmarais@lung.ca.
10. If you have an interest in northern health issues, consider attending the International Congress on Circumpolar Health, which will be held in Yellowknife, NWT from July 11 to 16, 2009.

12. The University of Calgary is hosting the 3rd Annual Endobronchial Ultrasound – A Revolution in Bronchoscopy forum in Calgary on February 19 & 20, 2009.

13. Health Canada will soon launch a public outreach campaign regarding radon, its health risks, and how to test for radon in homes, and remediate if necessary. As health care providers, you may receive questions about radon from your patients. For information about radon, see Health Canada’s website at http://www.healthcanada.gc.ca/radon.
