- Updating the CTS Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Sleep Disordered Breathing in Adults

This session will provide participants with an overview of the latest developments and controversies in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disordered breathing in adults. Leading Canadian experts in sleep disordered breathing will provide proposals for the revision of the current guidelines. Participation is limited. 5. SURVEYS: Help your colleagues in respiratory medicine advance their work by completing these surveys:
- COPD Action Plan Survey
The CTS, in partnership with the Family Physicians Advisory Group (FPAG) and the “Living Well with COPD” program has developed a written Action Plan for COPD patients. The Action Plan includes standing prescriptions for antibiotics and/or prednisone and helps patients to recognize symptom changes and to self-initiate a customized prescription in the event of an exacerbation. Please read the invitation letter regarding the survey and fill in the two to four minute online survey.
- Sleep Diagnostics Survey
The Division of Respirology at the University of Western Ontario is conducting a national survey on wait times and resource allocation for sleep diagnostic studies in Canada. The survey is short, and will take less than 10 minutes to complete. Click here to access this survey.
- BreathWorks Program Survey
The Lung Association is currently doing an evaluation of its BreathWorks Program, the national program for COPD disease management. The results of the evaluation will be used to put forward recommendations to improve the BreathWorks program, and ultimately benefit people living with COPD. Click here to fill in the online survey. (10 to 15 minute survey)

6. RESPTrec© launched SpiroTrec© in March of 2009 !
This new RESPTrec© course will teach individuals how to conduct quality spirometry including: knowledge of spirometers, understanding of the ATS/ERS standards for spirometry, quality control, patient instruction and basic interpretation of the results. Click here to learn more about SpiroTrec©.
7. MedEffectTM Canada Initiative launched by Health Canada
Health Canada is undertaking a campaign to raise awareness of the MedEffectTM Canada initiate, which aims to provide centralized access to new safety information about marketed health products in an easy-to-find, easy-to-remember location on the Health Canada Web site (www.healthcanada.gc.ca/medeffect). This Web site provides access to the latest advisories, warnings and recalls, issued by Health Canada concerning therapeutic drugs as well as other marketed health products including natural health products and medical devices.
