CTS Scientific Program

2012 - Preliminary Program

The CTS Scientific Program is an annual accredited CME event held in conjunction with the American College of Chest Physicians' CHEST Conference. The CTS hosts lectures and debates delivered by leading Canadian experts in respiratory medicine and research.

The annual program is based on an assessment of the needs of CTS members and is continuously improved through the implementation of suggestions made by attendees.

The annual program features two prestigious Canadian lectures:

  • The Christie Memorial Lecture

This lecture honours the memory of one of the major leaders in respiratory research and education in Canada – Dr Ronald Christie. Dr Christie was an inspiration in the development of modern respiratory medicine in Canada and was renowned as dean and head of the Department of Medicine at McGill University, Montreal, Québec, as well as a major supporter of the CTS. The lecturer is chosen on the basis of his or her major contributions to the development of research, education or clinical excellence in the field of Canadian respiratory medicine.

  • CIHR-ICRH/CTS Distinguished Lectureship in Respiratory Sciences

The Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health (ICRH) of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) established this lecture in collaboration with the Canadian Thoracic Society in honour of scholarship and creativity in the respiratory sciences. An outstanding researcher who has contributed to the advancement of respiratory sciences is invited to deliver a lecture as part of the CTS Scientific Program.
