If someone had said that I would quit a few days before I did quit cigarettes, I would have laughed and said that it was impossible. I thought that I would never be able to quit, being the addict to nicotine that I was.

March 23rd, 2010 I had my last cigarette and have been smoke free for three years. Pneumonia in both lungs landed me flat in bed for 11 days. I couldn't breathe, let alone smoke. Knowing that I had to go for regular lung X-rays for the next 4 months made me stay quit. I told myself that I'd be stupid if I started smoking because the whole purpose of having X-rays was to see if my lungs had healed and smoking would defeat the whole purpose of getting well. My husband is a smoker which makes it harder but I knew that if I had just one drag of a cigarette that I would be a slave to cigarettes to again and I'm so relieved to be free of that. It hasn't been easy but it's been well worth having my health back.
