Letter to the Prime Minister

One week ago, we offered our help and support to The Prime Minister. Since then, we have delivered on our promise to be of service and a valuable resource in a time of crisis. We held a free webinar that connected Canadians with lung disease, caregivers and others with Canada's leading lung health experts. We will continue to provide information and resources on the topic.

Dear Prime Minister,

On behalf of the Canadian Lung Association, we felt it was important to reach out to you at this critical time. We commend the Government of Canada for the swift actions it has taken to protect Canadians and attempt to prevent further spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). We were pleased to see your announcement yesterday that the Government would be launching a public awareness and education campaign that would help to ensure all Canadians know the role they need to play in order to protect one another. This is certainly a time for all of us to come together, while staying apart.

We are reaching out today to let you know we would be happy to lend our voice and leverage our networks to support your goal of reaching Canadians to help ensure messages concerning COVID-19 are heard and seen by as many people as possible.

Please think of us as a resource at this time and reach out to us if we can be a valuable partner for you in any way possible. The Canadian Lung Association is the country's leading organization focused on helping Canadians breathe. We do this by funding research, leading advocacy and providing health information to Canadians. We represent the one in five Canadians who live with lung disease. These are among those Canadians who are most at risk for developing a severe case of COVID-19.

However, we also represent the five in five Canadians who simply need to breathe. We work to change policy and create public education resources to ensure the right systems and information are in place to make sure all Canadians can breathe with ease. We are in a global crisis and lung health is now top of mind for the world. We are here to help.

Yours sincerely,

Terry Dean
President and CEO,
The Canadian Lung Association
