CLA launches the "Spell It Out" campaign

If you can’t spell it out, you probably shouldn’t breathe it in.

April 24, 2026

The Canadian Lung Association recently launched its Spell It Out campaign on social media and cable TV networks. This series of videos centres around a school spelling bee and shows teens attempting to spell some fairly complex words. The twist? All of the words are harmful chemicals and substances found in the typical vape pens. The intent is to make parents, teachers and teens stop and think about what's actually in vapes and help clarify the misperceptions that vaping is relatively harmless.

The campaign is part of our Lungs are for Life program, launched in September 2024. Lungs are for Life / Des poumons pour la vie is a full kit of ready-to-distribute handouts, presentation slides, activities, quizzes and more, empowers teachers and parents to learn the harms and share the facts about vaping with teens.

CLA was pleased to work with Halifax-based creative agency Wunder on this campaign.
