Why Alayne volunteers with CLA
“My father was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) in the fall of 2021. I organized a charity run to raise awareness and funds for lung health in Canada. During my father’s (far too) short battle with IPF, CLA made me feel a much-needed sense of connection and support, with the executive leadership taking the time to reach out to recognize the fundraising effort, and later, after my father passed, with heartfelt condolences.
Lung health remains a present and persistent force in my life, making volunteering on the CLA board feel continually relevant – whether it’s navigating an asthma diagnosis for my son, witnessing a friend actively manage a life with COPD, or the impact of lung disease taking yet another family member from us in the fall 2024. Navigating these experiences – and more – leave me with a sense of gratitude for the opportunity to give back via this exceptional organization. And also, it leaves me thankful for the feeling of breath that continues to flow easily through my own lungs.”

Why Deborah Volunteers with CLA
"Both of my sons struggled with asthma as children. But through the dedicated resources of the Canadian Lung Association (CLA), we learned about how asthma affects the lungs and how asthma symptoms could be managed and alleviated. With this knowledge, we were able to minimize trips to the hospital emergency and hospital admissions.
Today, my sons are able to breathe without struggling, but CLA—and its tireless dedication to the advancement of lung health—will always be part of my family’s story. Now, I want other families to access this same invaluable resource to protect and support their lung health."
